Thar it flies! — the Airbus BelugaXL Makes First Flight

Airbus’ supersized whale took to the skies for the first time today in Toulouse, spending 4 hours 14 minutes above southern France. The BelugaXL will join the current Beluga fleet in moving Airbus aircraft components between production sites. The BelugaXL is 30% larger than the Beluga, enabling it to carry two A350 wings at a time rather than just one. (more…)

The Busy Summer Skies—Continuing to Break Flight Tracking Records

From 00:00 to 23:59 UTC on 13 July, we tracked 205,468 flights, our most ever and only the third time we’ve ever tracked more than 200,000 flights in a single day. The two previous days in which we tracked over 200,000 were the day prior, 12 July, and the last Friday in June. 29 June was the first time ever we tracked over 200,000 flights. (more…)

New Flightradar24 ADS-B Receivers Activated in June 2018

In June we activated dozens of new Flightradar24 provided ADS-B receivers and hundreds more home-built receivers began sharing data with the Flightradar24 network. Thanks to these new receivers and the nearly 20,000 already apart of our network, we tracked 5.5 million flights in June. We also set a single day record, tracking 202,157 flights on 29 June! Route Proving with the Airbus A330neo

On 6 July, Airbus invited us to join an A330neo function and reliability test flight from Chicago to Atlanta. The airframer is currently working towards certification of the A330-900, which it intends to deliver to launch customer TAP Air Portugal later this year. As part of the certification process, Airbus is conducting a 5 continent tour to gain flight test hours and perform route proving. (more…)
